April Beacon

The past few months, I have heard several parents say to me “Charlie Bob can’t come to youth today because I caught them lying, and missing youth group seems to be the only thing they beg me to do.”  While that makes me feel good that they enjoy youth group so much (even more then cell phones, JK) that it’s a punishment to keep them away, I also want to challenge you on that.  Church is the very place we need to be when our souls are troubled or wrong.  I have often heard the church referred to as a hospital for sinners.  The devil is rejoicing when you keep your child away.  While youth group or youth events are meant to be fun they are also meant to be fulfilling spiritually.  Alternate suggestions for consequences would be to take their cell phone, ground them from visiting or being visiting by friends especially an overnight visit.  Turn the TV off for a week or the game systems.  This is a real good one (sit with them during youth group).  But please don’t miss out on the blessing that is in store for them because blessings from God cannot be passed by.  We had a dynamic speaker at the Bishops Rally Saturday who really spoke to the youth and it was a message from God which needed to be heard.
